What is Urban Crew?

Urban Crew is a task-based fleet optimisation tool built for operators of micromobility systems. Whether it’s rebalancing, battery charge or maintenance, our app and Control Center are built for suggesting the best possible operational solutions based on historical- and weather data. We use smart algorithms to create automatic tasks to cater for predictable events depending on the time and place they will happen, but we also strive for creating a balanced product that brings human savviness into the equation. The result is a simple-to-use, powerful, and actionable business strategy tool, tailor made for micromobility operations and its challenges.

GBFS and External Fleet API integration

Urban Crew is built to function with a steady flow of data coming from the General Bike Share Feed Specification (GBFS) only. However, the best possible outcome always comes from high quality input, so if you are looking for a deeper data understanding and more precise predictions, consider integrating your vehicle IoTs directly with Urban Crew. But, if you cannot wait to optimise your system, launch in as fast as two weeks by following these simple steps:

Optimal State Algorithms

Every task that is pushed by Urban Crew is generated by the algorithms of Optimal State. The back-end of Crew consists of a series of algorithms that create an ideal picture of a balanced system, with vehicles distributed geographically according to the demand mandated by the hour of the day; based on historical data and weather conditions. This ideal distribution of vehicles, which we call ‘The Optimal State’, serves as the bedrock of the more complex tools that Urban Crew has to offer, and that are built on top of it. All the data is of course fully exportable - see Urban API for more info.

Ranking Algorithms & Rebalancing Tasks

Every deviation from the Optimal State generates a task. Tasks are created on an hourly basis, indefinitely, and go right into the Urban Crew app that the staff will be using on the street. In a sea of tasks however, the prioritisation is not something that the Optimal State will always get right. We have developed a series of methods at the dispatcher level that allows the operator to specify their own needs according to local KPIs, areas of operation, or specific station specifications. Tweak the algorithms at your will, to generate the most accurate tasks out of the Optimal State, automatically streaming out to the mobile Urban Crew apps of the staff on street.

Battery swapping and maintenance operations can be more unpredictable than rebalancing tasks. We have therefore created a powerful system of filtering and multi-vehicle selection on the Crew Dispatcher Web App where you can apply battery swapping- or maintenance tasks to either stations or individual vehicles - or both at the same time! The view in the Crew Dispatcher Web App also allows you to select the order in which each stop will be carried out by the driver, generating routes that can be saved for routine operations.

Automatically Generated Tasks

Manually generated tasks for battery swapping and maintenance are intertwined with the automatically generated in perfect harmony on the Urban Crew Mobile App. After tweaking the ranking of the algorithms according to your KPIs and local geographies, the combination of tickets for rebalancing, battery swap, and maintenance will be displayed as suggestions for the drivers on the street who will be able to accept or reject them - data points that will help our algorithms make better suggestions in the future.

Crew Dispatcher Web App

A fully interactive business operations centre, the map-based visualisations are meant for breaking down the system in the simplest way according to the parameters of your choice. With 3D views, warehouse visualisations, route displays, and live tracking of operations, the Dispatcher Web App is the most complete micromobility control panel in the industry. Setting up teams, trucks, areas, warehouses is simple and is completely customisable. The mix of free-floating vehicles is sorted into H3 zones, or hexagons, where stations and drop-off locations can be catered for simultaneously.

The decisions and criteria that are selected in the Dispatcher Web App will be reflected directly on the staff mobile apps. There is no limit to the number of mobile apps running simultaneously: once a phone is linked to a truck at the start of a session, the GPS location of the phone becomes the truck location that the Dispatcher Web App will be displaying throughout the workday. Truck-specific tasks will be pushed for that Mobile App depending on the parameters selected by the dispatcher, with the possibility of rejecting and down prioritising tasks on the side of the truck staff. The Mobile App also works as a vehicle ID scanner, creating data points on maintenance, rebalancing, and battery swap in the Urban Crew database as vehicles are checked-in and checked-out of the truck.

Urban Crew Analytics API

All the data generated by Urban Crew can be exported through the Analytics API purposely built for cities and operating partners to build business intelligence visuals and reports on the operational health of their micromobility systems. The Crew Analytics API is sold separately as pulls data directly from our hosted databases with endpoints easily accessible by third parties.
